After training in the traditional craft of papermaking in Ayabe, Kyoto—home to the renowned Kurotani Washi tradition—Wataru Hatano began creating works using washi as his primary medium.

Driven by a desire to share the beauty and potential of washi with a wider audience, Hatano-san creates both art and craft while also proposing new ways to incorporate washi into contemporary interior spaces.

Displaying one of Hatano-san's expressive calligraphic works brings a quiet sense of harmony and refinement to the tokonoma. Rendered in a painterly composition using only black and white, each work invites a contemplative dialogue with the words it bears.

It may cause damage or discoloration.
Also it is possible to peel the surface off over time.
